CSA Rail Gun

CSA Rail Gun

This Rail Gun was my first scratch build project. Built on a caboose chassis with an extra truck located in center to simulate the multi-axle configuration. I wasn't looking so much for Museum accuracy but rather for the "feel" of the piece. The gun is a metal tire stem modified with J/B Weld and the gun carriage is made from Popsicle sticks. The superstructure is also made from Popsicle sticks and then dabbed with sand and brown paint for weathering. The cannonballs are #4 shot from a 12gauge shotgun glued together with Elmer's glue. I realize that Bettendorf Trucks are WAY out of line for the time frame, but I used what I had on hand to get a rolling piece on the tracks. All of that stuff can be changed as time and resources present themselves

From the Library Of Congress. These were  mistakenly labeled as being a Federal Rail Piece. Scholars have since determined that this is actually a Confederate car.  Some have even speculated that this is in fact the 1862 Lee Gun Car.
